Funny enough the best footage that I got for this video was on a super cheap camcorder from Amazon which broke about a week later. Got another one after it broke and it took about 3 weeks for that one to be done too. Not very durable device but I love the way they add to an edit. Makes it feel more homemade for sure.

I remember this day super clearly. It was the first hot day in May 2020 and I was filming in my bathing suit. We had to hike about a mile and a half to the left of Cahoon Hollow but, as you can tell, it was worth it.

“Groms” was made possible by a failed plan for gap year in Hawaii, a last minute internship at a Costa Rican school, and some unbeatable friendships. I had way too much fun filming these guys day in and day out. Early mornings, late afternoons, full energy, and non-stop surfing. For me, this is what videography and editing is all about. The places that the skill can take you and the people that you meet along the way.

I continued to film these guys when I came back in early 2022 after returning home for the holidays. The waves got better the drier the season became, so the amount of footage that I have is a little insane. I had intentions to make a part 2 edit but the post-travel depression made it hard to get back into the groove of things. Maybe some day. But old footage when the surfing is probably much changed? Hmmmmm.

Anyway, I can’t thank these guys enough for everything they did for me during my time there. Couldn't have asked for it to be any other way.
